more stuff about gopher turtles
by on 9/2/2010 2:42:34 PM

WOW!  i got lots of great emails about my second anniversary of blogging,, i guess i will keep it up and maybe even try harder,, maybe even spell check and learn grammar

i expect the next 2 years to be even more exciting,, i have secret plans and impossible dreams that i hope will come alive

but even more important than pottery is my gopher turtle story,,,,,

yesterday i was wandering around the yard and found a baby gopher walking up the sidewalk to the back door,,, so i snatched him up to go show bob, we had talked before about how to keep the babies safe from the lawnmower,, i worry about that every time i mow,,,,, i left him on the porch till we figured out what to do w/ him and i went back to work,, AND then i found another one toddling about,, so i looked around and damned if i didnt find a third baby gopher,, TRIPLETS!

so i was in a quandry,,, i didnt want 3 turtle pets,,and i wasnt sure what to do w/ them,, i figured to paint a big red dot on their back and that way i would see them in the yard,,, BUT then i went back out in the yard just in time to see a hawk swoop down and snatch up a fourth baby that i didnt see,,

oh the horror!!   i love nature until it eats each other,,,

then i didnt know what to do,, a red spot would just make it easier for the hawk,, start a turtle sanctuary? build little fences? all afternoon i wondered and worried and bob found nothing on the interweb to help figure out what to do,,, so in the end i just set them free,, i let them go next to a turtle hole and they ran north and then i set them in the forest and they ran into the sun still north,,, so i ended up just tagging along behind watching them head north off into the woods,, i followed them until they were in the woods and hawks would have a hard time getting to them,, i guess they knew where they were going,,

it would have been cool to have them as pets running [not really running ] around the house,, but i think they like to dig holes,, so i wouldnt want my floors ruined,, i did have a friend who had a tourtiouse pet and he was smart and friendly,,,i guess if i need a turtle pet i can just borrow the big old one that wanderes by the studio

ok thats all,, im busy working on my gulf oil spill series of pots,, and doing some gators w/ seminole kids riding on their backs,, and then theres at least 10 more pots, that i have no clue as what to do w/ them,, im waiting for a lightning strike of inspiration,,,, xomartin    thank you again for the encouraging emails
